Cristina Bellu

Cello Pedagogy Teacher, Scuola Universitaria di Musica

Cristina Bellu earned her Diploma in cello in Florence, Italy at the Conservatorio L. Cherubini, under S. Guadagni and her Master Degree at Roosevelet University of Chicago, USA, with K. Scholes.

She performed with conductors such as P. Boulez, D. Baremboim, Z. Mehta, and others all over the world in orchestras such as the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino etc. From the age of sixteen onward, she has been part of chamber music ensembles in classical, baroque and light classical repertoire. Since 2005 she is also active as an orchestral soloist. Composers P. Morehead, G. Lawrence and H. Mertens have written music especially for her.

Her main interest lies in the field of pedagogy. Since 1999 she holds the chair of cello professor at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départementale de Mulhouse (F). In addition, Cristina currently holds the position of professor of cello pedagogy at the Scuola Universitaria di Musica in Lugano and the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne (CH).

Cristina is engaged in diffusing string pedagogy at European level. She is currently president of ESTA France and she represents ESTA International at the Council of Europe.
