Andreas Cincera

Double Bass Pedagogy Teacher, Scuola Universitaria di Musica

Andreas Cincera began studying the double bass while, at the same time, studying the violoncello. (His initial stimulus was the opportunity to be able to participate at a premiere of a composition by the Swiss composer, Frank Martin.) Shortly thereafter he began his musical formation in the bass, continuing to post graduate studies with Gary Karr, Francesco Petracchi and Duncan McTier.

Since then, he has completely dedicated his career as a musician and pedagogue to the development and promotion of a polyvalent double bass and to excellence in musical education: from the beginning through professional tuition.

After a long period in the orchestras of the “Orchester der Oper Zürich” and “Tonhalle Orchester” and for 12 years as member of the ensemble for contemporary music, the Collegium Novum Zurich, he now performs as soloist and chamber musician together with outstanding and international partners. Beside the modern double bass he enjoys playing the violone in baroque and classical tuning. His versatility is also evidenced in theatre productions, in which he combines classical, contemporary and improvised music with stage-art and literature.

Andreas Cincera has interests and enthusiasm in all significant aspects of teaching and learning music in its whole stylistic variety; he is involved in research inspired by these interests.

He is a professor at the Scuola Universitaria di Musica della Svizzera italiana in Lugano as well as at the Konservatorium Klassik & Jazz in Zurich and is head of the Institute for Music and Pedagogy IMP.
