Last November, the Gebert Rüf Foundation (Basel) granted a very important grant to the Divisione Ricerca e Sviluppo of the Cosnervatorio della Svizzera italiana (University School of Music) for the project “Art for Ages”.
Art for Ages is a research programme that grew out of the seventh strategic axis of the SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland), in collaboration with the Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care. The programme intends to investigate the role of musical experience in enhancing the physical and mental wellbeing of older adults in nursing homes in Southern Switzerland. Specifically, it will explore the function of music in the lives of older adults and the psychological and physiological benefits of group music making on health and wellbeing.
Art for Ages was selected among a group of five finalists of the BREF 2014 competition (Brückenschläge mit Erfolg 2014), organized by the Gerbert Rüf Foundation in association with the Conference of Rectors of the Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences and Arts, and will receive a grant of CHF 294’000.-.
