Paolo Paolantonio

Paolo Paolantonio Paolo studied both string bass and electric bass in Italy, with Franco Petracchi (Accademia “W. Stauffer” Cremona), Riccardo Donati and Alberto Bocini (Accademia “Maggio Formazione”, Florence) for classic music and Toni Armetta (Rome) for Electric Bass and Jazz Music. In 2008, studying with R. Donati he graduated with a Masters in Musical Performance at Conservatorio di Mantova, with the final project entitled “Il Contrabbasso come sorgente sonora per la musica nuova” (“The Double Bass as sound source for new music”).In the same year, after a position as the principal double bass with “Orchestra del Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana”, he decided to begin a Masters in Instrumental Pedagogy (with Andreas Cincera); in June 2010 he graduated with a final project entitled “Jazz Bass for Young Musicians”.Paolo has played in several orchestras (Orchestra “G. Verdi”, Milano, Orchestra del “Teatro Regio di Parma”, Orchestra “1813” Como and others), for many world-wide RAI programs, and has achieved numerous recordings in both classical and modern music.He has also collaborated with many young composers in the creation, performance and recording of various pieces for ensemble or solo double bass.Also active in education from the age of 21, he is currently Professor of double bass at the “Accademia Vivaldi” (Locarno), at SMUS (Mendrisio and Bellinzona), and coach of the “Jazz Band Workshop” at SMUS (Lugano).
